The piece of mind that you get from having insurance that covers things like sickness and weather and baggage delays is worth so much.

00:00:18.170 --> 00:00:27.015
And this and more is all included with your Chase Sapphire preferred card as long as you know how to activate these benefits.

00:00:27.015 --> 00:00:36.350

00:00:36.350 --> 00:00:39.488
Welcome back to points for normal people.

00:00:39.488 --> 00:00:45.805
I'm Katie, and I'm here because I know that travel costs add up, especially for a family.

00:00:45.805 --> 00:00:49.374
But I believe that travel isn't just for the rich.

00:00:49.374 --> 00:00:51.972
That's why on points for normal people.

00:00:51.972 --> 00:00:56.100
I share the tips and tricks that our family has been using for over a decade.

00:00:56.100 --> 00:00:56.640
Eight.

00:00:56.640 --> 00:01:07.983
To help you use your everyday expenses and credit card welcome offers, to supercharge your travel points, so that you can pay for entire vacations every year.

00:01:07.983 --> 00:01:13.061
Today is part two of discussing benefits on the Chase Saphyr preferred card.

00:01:13.061 --> 00:01:17.308
Last episode, we discussed the shopping related benefits.

00:01:17.308 --> 00:01:22.506
Today, we're going to be focusing in on the travel related benefits of this card.

00:01:22.506 --> 00:01:34.198
If you're tuning in for the first time, the reason that we're focused on the Chase Sapphire preferred is I believe it to be the best beginner card on the market for points It's also the first card in my three year plan.

00:01:34.198 --> 00:01:47.959
And in season one, I'm trying to give everybody a really good foundation with that chase sapphire preferred and other ways that you'll be learning how to use ultimate rewards points, which are the currency that you'll earn from your SAFIRE preferred card.

00:01:47.959 --> 00:01:56.134
Just like last week, I'll be discussing the benefits as well as simple habits that you could start to take advantage of these benefits.

00:01:56.134 --> 00:02:04.629
I will also discuss some mistakes that you need to avoid, because some people make simple mistakes that prevent these benefits from activating.

00:02:04.629 --> 00:02:13.145
If you're curious how I know all this, besides having been in the Points World for over a decade, it's also because I'm a reader.

00:02:13.145 --> 00:02:18.413
You know that little booklet that you get when you open a new credit card with all that fine print.

00:02:18.413 --> 00:02:22.050
I think most people either file it or they recycle it.

00:02:22.050 --> 00:02:24.568
Few people actually read it.

00:02:24.568 --> 00:02:28.046
Well, I'm one of those people that actually reads it.

00:02:28.046 --> 00:02:31.765
Reading that fine print and staying up to date on my benefits.

00:02:31.765 --> 00:02:34.354
Helps me get the most out of my cards.

00:02:34.354 --> 00:02:37.393
You don't have to read all the benefit details.

00:02:37.393 --> 00:02:39.592
I'll give you a summary of them today.

00:02:39.592 --> 00:02:49.165
I want to start today with the travel benefit on the sapphire preferred that has a really tangible outcome, the fifty dollars per year hotel benefit.

00:02:49.165 --> 00:02:52.163
First, let's define some terms.

00:02:52.163 --> 00:02:56.602
This benefit is listed as per card member year.

00:02:56.602 --> 00:02:59.120
So what's a card member year?

00:02:59.120 --> 00:03:07.906
A card member year means that whenever you get the card, a clock starts, and you have twelve months to use this benefit.

00:03:07.906 --> 00:03:11.554
If you don't use the benefit, you'll lose it.

00:03:11.554 --> 00:03:18.848
When you pay the annual fee after you've had the card for a full year, This benefit will reset and you'll get to use it again.

00:03:18.848 --> 00:03:25.924
With credit cards, sometimes benefits are tied to a card member here and sometimes they're tied to a calendar year.

00:03:25.924 --> 00:03:35.668
If a benefit is tied to a calendar year, it means that in any given year, You can use that benefit between January first and December thirty first.

00:03:35.668 --> 00:03:40.066
On the next year, on January first, the benefit would reset.

00:03:40.066 --> 00:03:46.692
But again, this fifty dollars hotel credit on the SAFIRE preferred is based on the card member year.

00:03:46.692 --> 00:03:53.128
If you can't remember if you've used this benefit, You can check by logging into your Chase account on your computer.

00:03:53.128 --> 00:03:56.447
I haven't found an easy way to do this on the app.

00:03:56.447 --> 00:04:04.741
After I select my sapphire card, I usually click on the redeem link next to where it shows how many ultimate rewards I have.

00:04:04.741 --> 00:04:10.538
This will put you over onto a web site that's ultimate rewards points dot chase dot com.

00:04:10.538 --> 00:04:17.754
And once you're there, you can select on the top menu something that says rewards details and then you'll want card benefits.

00:04:17.754 --> 00:04:22.512
I'm telling you they do not always make these things easy to find.

00:04:22.512 --> 00:04:23.531
Okay.

00:04:23.531 --> 00:04:24.211
So you're there.

00:04:24.211 --> 00:04:26.110
You're on the card benefits section.

00:04:26.110 --> 00:04:33.995
You're going to scroll halfway down the page and you should see something that says fifty dollars annual Chase hotel credit.

00:04:33.995 --> 00:04:39.762
And it will tell you if you've used it or how much you've used of it and when it will expire.

00:04:39.762 --> 00:04:46.278
Mine just reset, so it shows I have a fifty dollar hotel credit through April fifteenth, twenty twenty five.

00:04:46.278 --> 00:04:49.677
So let's talk about how to use this benefit easily.

00:04:49.677 --> 00:04:53.654
Chase Travel operates like any online booking site.

00:04:53.654 --> 00:04:57.233
Like Expedia or Orbitz, which you may be familiar with.

00:04:57.233 --> 00:05:02.990
To access it, you can log in to your Chase account and navigate to the link that says redeem points.

00:05:02.990 --> 00:05:07.298
And then you'll see travel and should see a link that says book travel.

00:05:07.298 --> 00:05:10.317
If you're on the app, you can click on the bottom.

00:05:10.317 --> 00:05:12.696
There's a button that says benefits and travel.

00:05:12.696 --> 00:05:16.632
And you'll see a book travel button with an airplane icon.

00:05:16.632 --> 00:05:23.858
With this benefit, if you book a hotel via Chase Travel, you can get a statement credit of up to fifty dollars.

00:05:23.858 --> 00:05:31.233
If you are booking a hotel that only cost thirty five dollars, you would only get thirty five dollars as a statement credit.

00:05:31.233 --> 00:05:43.596
If you're unfamiliar with statement credits, how it works is that you'd pay the full price for the hotel, and then a few days or weeks later, you'd see another credit on your bill.

00:05:43.596 --> 00:05:49.451
It's just like a charge for negative fifty dollars and will lower your total amount owed.

00:05:49.451 --> 00:05:52.651
Essentially, it's like a delayed discount.

00:05:52.651 --> 00:06:03.293
Now, you may not plan to book a hotel via Chase Travel every year, but there are still ways to use this benefit due to how this perk is currently given.

00:06:03.293 --> 00:06:10.091
Like I said, this fifty dollar credit is given after you make your Chase Travel Booking for a hotel.

00:06:10.091 --> 00:06:24.043
What we found anecdotally is that if you later have to cancel your hotel reservation due to a change in plans, Chase doesn't take back the fifty dollar credit once it's given it to you.

00:06:24.043 --> 00:06:37.963
This could theoretically change in the future, But as of now, it's possible to book a refundable hotel, get the credit, cancel the hotel later, and still get a full refund for the hotel.

00:06:37.963 --> 00:06:44.120
So let's say the hotel costs a hundred and fifty dollars and you paid for it via Chase Travel.

00:06:44.120 --> 00:06:50.646
Then four weeks later, you see a fifty dollars hotel credit on your Saphyr preferred statement.

00:06:50.646 --> 00:06:54.274
Sometimes these statement credits do take a few weeks to appear.

00:06:54.274 --> 00:06:58.612
Your out of pocket cost is now down to a hundred dollars for that hotel.

00:06:58.612 --> 00:07:03.050
You paid a hundred and fifty dollars, but you got a fifty dollar statement credit.

00:07:03.050 --> 00:07:19.930
If after that fifty dollars hotel credit appears, you were to decide that you in fact wanted to cancel your hotel reservation, you'd cancel via Chase Travel and receive a full refund for what you paid on their site, a one hundred and fifty dollar refund.

00:07:19.930 --> 00:07:27.266
That's because what you paid on the Chase site and the statement credit are different departments essentially.

00:07:27.266 --> 00:07:35.653
So even after you cancel and get your hundred and fifty dollar refund, nothing typically changes with your fifty dollar statement credit.

00:07:35.653 --> 00:07:44.057
This is nice to keep in mind If you aren't sure if you'd use your fifty dollar credit otherwise, you can book a hotel that you might use.

00:07:44.057 --> 00:07:50.293
And if you change your mind, you'd still be able to cancel it and you'd still have gotten your fifty dollar statement credit.

00:07:50.293 --> 00:07:55.331
This is especially helpful if you're still bothered by the ninety five dollar annual fee.

00:07:55.331 --> 00:08:02.476
If you're able to use that fifty dollar credit, that essentially knocks the ninety five dollar annual fee down to forty five dollars.

00:08:02.476 --> 00:08:08.692
So how can you develop a habit to take advantage of this fifty dollars hotel credit?

00:08:08.692 --> 00:08:19.634
The easiest first step is that Anytime you go to book a hotel and you're not using points to book it, you should check Chase Travel to see if you can book there.

00:08:19.634 --> 00:08:27.091
Not only will you earn five points per dollar that you're spending, you'll also be able to use your fifty dollar hotel credit.

00:08:27.091 --> 00:08:35.775
That fifty dollar hotel credit is one of the most tangible travel benefits that you're getting on this card besides of course the points that you're earning.

00:08:35.775 --> 00:08:42.292
In addition to this though, the Saphyr preferred also comes with some travel insurances and protections.

00:08:42.292 --> 00:08:47.707
So since we're focused on travel here, you'll want to be aware of these and how to activate them.

00:08:47.707 --> 00:08:54.682
It's really important to note that these travel projections apply to the person whose name is embossed on the card.

00:08:54.682 --> 00:08:57.322
This is the language from their fine print.

00:08:57.322 --> 00:09:04.447
Some of these benefits do also extend to travel companions, usually specifically to family members.

00:09:04.447 --> 00:09:10.022
So I'll talk about the implications of that fine print as I go through each benefit.

00:09:10.022 --> 00:09:11.741
First benefit.

00:09:11.741 --> 00:09:14.839
Rental car collision damage waiver.

00:09:14.839 --> 00:09:21.035
Many people are familiar with the idea that many credit cards provide extra car rental insurance.

00:09:21.035 --> 00:09:30.130
There are terms associated with this, a few countries are excluded, and you will have to decline any insurance at the rental counter.

00:09:30.130 --> 00:09:36.086
But it does provide extra protection for you at no extra cost to you.

00:09:36.086 --> 00:09:37.725
And this is a great perk.

00:09:37.725 --> 00:09:41.352
If you accidentally scratch a rental car, you're covered.

00:09:41.352 --> 00:09:45.032
Or if you're also covered if you get into a bigger accident.

00:09:45.032 --> 00:09:48.759
And a lot of cards have similar coverage to this.

00:09:48.759 --> 00:09:54.355
But one reason the Saphyr preferred is a little better than most cards providing this coverage.

00:09:54.355 --> 00:09:58.322
Is that the coverage it provides is a primary coverage.

00:09:58.322 --> 00:10:02.201
Most credit cards provide secondary coverage.

00:10:02.201 --> 00:10:09.346
What that means is that if you get into a crash with your rental car, your personal insurance is billed first.

00:10:09.346 --> 00:10:18.760
So if you have All State or USAA or whatever you pay for car insurance at home, that insurance would be billed by the rental car company.

00:10:18.760 --> 00:10:28.984
This is a disadvantage because it means if something happens with your rental car, even a smaller scratch that maybe on your own car you might ignore.

00:10:28.984 --> 00:10:33.101
Your insurance rates after this claim will likely increase.

00:10:33.101 --> 00:10:41.395
After that's billed, other credit card coverage would only kick in after your personal car insurance has been billed first.

00:10:41.395 --> 00:10:46.552
In the case of the sapphire preferred though, this card has primary rental insurance.

00:10:46.552 --> 00:10:55.107
That means that if you get into an accident or you have a scrape on the car, and have paid for your rental with your Saphyr preferred card.

00:10:55.107 --> 00:11:04.831
The credit card coverage will be billed first which means that your personal insurance doesn't get billed and your personal rates won't be affected.

00:11:04.831 --> 00:11:14.067
This isn't the only card with this benefit but it's one of the very few with a relatively low ninety five dollar annual fee that has this benefit.

00:11:14.067 --> 00:11:20.703
But keep in mind, this only applies to the card member whose name is embossed on the card.

00:11:20.703 --> 00:11:28.298
So if I have a Saphyr preferred card and I book and I pay for a rental, with my sapphire preferred card.

00:11:28.298 --> 00:11:31.836
The driver on that card needs to be me.

00:11:31.836 --> 00:11:33.376
It needs to be in my name.

00:11:33.376 --> 00:11:41.181
If I book a car and I list my husband as the primary driver, it would not be covered by my sapphire preferred.

00:11:41.181 --> 00:11:47.826
So the name on the credit card needs to match the name of the primary driver for this coverage to activate.

00:11:47.826 --> 00:11:55.162
We've made the mistake before where I used one of my cards to pay for a rental in my husband's name.

00:11:55.162 --> 00:12:01.947
Ultimately, I had to rebook the rental car in my name for a higher fee because we wanted to be sure we had that coverage.

00:12:01.947 --> 00:12:11.960
I also want to make a side note here that if you use this coverage in other countries, it's pretty common that they will require a hold to be placed on your credit card.

00:12:11.960 --> 00:12:15.898
This is often called excess and can be a few thousand dollars.

00:12:15.898 --> 00:12:19.995
The first time that we had to pay this, it was really unfamiliar to us.

00:12:19.995 --> 00:12:22.854
But I just want to say here that that's pretty normal.

00:12:22.854 --> 00:12:31.947
And if you're refusing a car rental company's insurance, In another country, you can often expect to have a large hold put on your card.

00:12:31.947 --> 00:12:40.932
The salesman will often do a big upsell to try to get you to avoid this extra hold or this excess because they want you to buy their insurance.

00:12:40.932 --> 00:12:49.788
But if you have a card with good insurance and a high enough credit limit, it shouldn't be a problem to have this hold or this excess put on your card.

00:12:49.788 --> 00:12:55.304
Another unique protection the sapphire preferred card has is baggage delay insurance.

00:12:55.304 --> 00:13:09.907
Like many of the travel protections I'm going to mention next, this benefit is activated if you pay for a common carrier ticket with your sapphire preferred, or as long as you pay for a portion of the ticket.

00:13:09.907 --> 00:13:13.865
This can mean just paying taxes and fees for your ticket.

00:13:13.865 --> 00:13:29.706
That's especially relevant as you get into points because when you're paying for an airline ticket with airline miles, Anytime you pay for that ticket with miles, like United Miles or Southwest Points, you still have to pay taxes and fees.

00:13:29.706 --> 00:13:32.693
Within the US, these fees are very low.

00:13:32.693 --> 00:13:35.373
They're five dollars and sixty cents each way.

00:13:35.373 --> 00:13:44.238
Even by just paying this five dollars and sixty cents tax and fee, with your Chase Saphyr preferred card, you can activate this insurance.

00:13:44.238 --> 00:13:48.715
I won't go over all the terms of all of these benefits I'm about to list.

00:13:48.715 --> 00:13:54.293
But I will link in the show notes where you can read the fine print if you choose to do so.

00:13:54.293 --> 00:13:57.370
So first, let's talk about this baggage delay insurance.

00:13:57.370 --> 00:14:11.591
It means that if you check bags and they are delayed more than six hours upon arrival, you will be covered for up to one hundred dollars per day that the bags are delayed to buy what you need.

00:14:11.591 --> 00:14:15.717
Usually, this is intended to cover clothes and toiletries and medications.

00:14:15.717 --> 00:14:25.342
This isn't an upfront cash payout, but isn't a reimbursement and you'd need to submit receipts showing the items that you needed to purchase.

00:14:25.342 --> 00:14:30.140
This one hundred dollars per day of delay is for the cardholder.

00:14:30.140 --> 00:14:33.928
And it also covers family members traveling with them.

00:14:33.928 --> 00:14:41.264
So let's say we were on a trip and we had checked our bags to France and we got to France and our bags weren't there.

00:14:41.264 --> 00:14:52.697
If six hours pass and our bags still aren't there, we would get a hundred dollars for each of us, to buy the clothes and toiletries that we might need for that day, so up to four hundred.

00:14:52.697 --> 00:15:02.341
Dollars If another twenty four hours pass, We could get another one hundred dollars each for each of our four family members if we needed to buy additional items.

00:15:02.341 --> 00:15:04.341
It's a pretty generous benefit.

00:15:04.341 --> 00:15:12.634
I actually know people who have been a little excited when their bags get delayed by a few days because they get to buy a few new outfits in a new city.

00:15:12.634 --> 00:15:17.732
Now, we've never personally filed for this because we've never had a bag get delayed.

00:15:17.732 --> 00:15:24.198
We're also pretty committed to carry on bags because just like to know my bags are going to for sure make it with us.

00:15:24.198 --> 00:15:30.654
But if you check bags, this is a really good benefit to know about in case your bags do go and get delayed.

00:15:30.654 --> 00:15:39.270
As an aside, this insurance is secondary to the airline's reimbursement policy, so you may have to file a claim with your airline first.

00:15:39.270 --> 00:15:41.869
But it's a great option to know that you have it.

00:15:41.869 --> 00:15:56.292
Again, it is activated if you as the card holder have used your sapphire preferred to pay for at least a portion of a ticket for yourself and family members are included if they're on the same reservation.

00:15:56.292 --> 00:16:00.347
So you have to make sure that you're booking with that in mind.

00:16:00.347 --> 00:16:05.466
There are a few more types of protections you can access by booking travel with your sapphire preferred.

00:16:05.466 --> 00:16:08.114
Trip cancellation, and trip delay.

00:16:08.114 --> 00:16:14.951
These are also really great benefits for a ninety five dollar fee card and once you'll want to keep in the back of your mind.

00:16:14.951 --> 00:16:16.859
For those worst case scenarios.

00:16:16.859 --> 00:16:23.855
For trip cancellation, this is activated if you pay for a part of your trip with your Saphyr preferred card.

00:16:23.855 --> 00:16:27.644
And you as the card member need to be going on the trip.

00:16:27.644 --> 00:16:30.701
This doesn't necessarily need to be a plane ticket.

00:16:30.701 --> 00:16:33.350
It could also include a hotel for a road trip.

00:16:33.350 --> 00:16:42.884
You can get up to ten thousand dollars per person or twenty thousand dollars per trip reimbursed for non refundable travel expenses.

00:16:42.884 --> 00:16:46.333
If you need to cancel a trip for a covered reason.

00:16:46.333 --> 00:16:49.011
So let's talk about a few of those terms.

00:16:49.011 --> 00:16:51.530
First, there's eligible travel expenses.

00:16:51.530 --> 00:16:56.457
Those have to be nonrefundable and prepaid travel expenses.

00:16:56.457 --> 00:16:58.277
So this makes sense.

00:16:58.277 --> 00:16:58.476
Right?

00:16:58.476 --> 00:17:03.453
Because if it was refundable, you would just get a refund when you decided to cancel the trip.

00:17:03.453 --> 00:17:12.788
It can include things like lodging, rental cars, tours, and excursions, as well as cruises or airline or train tickets.

00:17:12.788 --> 00:17:22.561
Important to note is that this doesn't include event tickets or prepaid tickets to theme parks unless you purchase them as part of a travel package.

00:17:22.561 --> 00:17:30.077
What is particularly helpful about this benefit is that it covers a lot of situations where you might need to cancel a trip.

00:17:30.077 --> 00:17:36.993
Some of those include, if you or your traveling companions, get sick or injured and therefore can't travel.

00:17:36.993 --> 00:17:44.878
If an immediate family member of yours gets sick or injured and either is in the hospital, or needs you to care for them.

00:17:44.878 --> 00:17:47.518
Severe weather is covered.

00:17:47.518 --> 00:17:50.796
It's covered if you have jury duty come up.

00:17:50.796 --> 00:17:55.923
It's also covered if something happens to your home like it's damaged by a flood or a fire.

00:17:55.923 --> 00:18:02.768
There are even more scenarios, but personal I think that the severe weather and the injury clauses are the most common.

00:18:02.768 --> 00:18:13.041
So with trip cancellation, If you need to cancel a trip because you got sick or if there's a hurricane that's gonna be in your destination, you're covered.

00:18:13.041 --> 00:18:19.957
If an immediate family member gets sick and requires you to be with them in the hospital, you're covered by trip cancellation.

00:18:19.957 --> 00:18:26.372
With this benefit, you can then recoup the losses from hotels or airfare, even some tours.

00:18:26.372 --> 00:18:29.171
Those things that you booked that are nonrefundable.

00:18:29.171 --> 00:18:38.705
You are even covered if your airline is charging you redeposit fees, which is what some airlines charge to refund miles back to your account.

00:18:38.705 --> 00:18:42.823
Again, this really helps with peace of mind as you book a trip.

00:18:42.823 --> 00:18:53.396
The fine print states that the primary card holder just needs to charge a portion of the trip to the card to qualify for reimbursement on those nonrefundable expenses.

00:18:53.396 --> 00:18:58.173
In addition to trip cancellation, there's also trip delay reimbursement.

00:18:58.173 --> 00:19:09.306
This has some similarities but has more to do with what happens if you're on a trip and you can't get home or if you're delayed in one city on the way to another city.

00:19:09.306 --> 00:19:17.111
With the Saphyr preferred, it is activated if your delay is more than twelve hours or requires an overnight stay.

00:19:17.111 --> 00:19:25.414
Again, you would have had to pay for your ticket or a portion of your ticket with your Saphyr preferred to activate this.

00:19:25.414 --> 00:19:31.231
And the person whose name is embossed on the card needs to be one of the people on the trip.

00:19:31.231 --> 00:19:34.590
This is specific to transportation delays.

00:19:34.590 --> 00:19:38.209
So your flight is delayed or your train ride is delayed.

00:19:38.209 --> 00:19:47.074
If you're on a road trip, this can't activate because you need to have purchased a common carrier ticket of some kind to activate this.

00:19:47.074 --> 00:19:53.070
But what's great about this benefit is that trip delay covers you even in the case of inclement weather.

00:19:53.070 --> 00:20:00.477
So you may know that airlines aren't required to put you up at a hotel if a flight is delayed overnight for weather.

00:20:00.477 --> 00:20:03.345
But this benefit provides protection for that.

00:20:03.345 --> 00:20:10.122
So with trip delay reimbursement, you can get up to five hundred dollars for each covered person.

00:20:10.122 --> 00:20:13.608
This is supposed to cover meals, lodging, and toiletries.

00:20:13.608 --> 00:20:20.683
If you're coming home and your flight is delayed overnight due to a thunderstorm, you don't have to sleep at the airport.

00:20:20.683 --> 00:20:28.559
You can book a hotel and go out to a decent dinner knowing that you have five hundred dollars per person to book a room and get meals.

00:20:28.559 --> 00:20:32.597
Like all of these protections, I hope you never have to use them.

00:20:32.597 --> 00:20:33.097
Right?

00:20:33.097 --> 00:20:40.913
But knowing you have these extra protections included on your card, make setting out on a trip a little less stressful.

00:20:40.913 --> 00:20:47.310
I know this might feel like a whirlwind of benefits I'm listing for you between last week and this week.

00:20:47.310 --> 00:20:52.428
But I wanna make sure you know them because they're so valuable to have and to know about.

00:20:52.428 --> 00:20:58.384
So what are some action steps that you can take to make sure you're not missing out on these benefits.

00:20:58.384 --> 00:21:01.222
First, the fifty dollar hotel credit.

00:21:01.222 --> 00:21:08.169
This one is easy to forget, and if you don't feel like bothering with it, you can absolutely ignore it.

00:21:08.169 --> 00:21:13.205
There are some years when I personally have used this and some years I have not used it.

00:21:13.205 --> 00:21:19.712
I don't really stress too much about this one because the sapphire preferred is well worth the ninety five dollar fee to me.

00:21:19.712 --> 00:21:27.897
But if you'd like to be sure you're getting this benefit, you should log in to your Chase account to check the date that yours will reset.

00:21:27.897 --> 00:21:33.214
I'd recommend that you make a note in your calendar for about two months before this date.

00:21:33.214 --> 00:21:35.523
To remind yourself to use this benefit.

00:21:35.523 --> 00:21:40.400
This gives you time to try to use up that benefit and get that fifty dollar credit.

00:21:40.400 --> 00:21:46.217
Remember that if you make a refundable hotel reservation, you'll get that fifty dollar credit.

00:21:46.217 --> 00:21:54.211
And even if you have to later cancel the hotel reservation, your fifty dollar credit seems to still stick in your account.

00:21:54.211 --> 00:21:58.009
So there isn't really a risk in booking a refundable reservation.

00:21:58.009 --> 00:22:01.718
Next, in regard to travel protections.

00:22:01.718 --> 00:22:11.252
Now that you know about the travel protections included on the Saphyr card, Make sure that you're paying for taxes and fees on airline tickets with your Saphyr preferred.

00:22:11.252 --> 00:22:15.730
If you have another premium card like the Venture X, that works too.

00:22:15.730 --> 00:22:18.669
But just be consistent about whatever you're using.

00:22:18.669 --> 00:22:23.146
That way, if you do need to file a claim, it will be easier to do.

00:22:23.146 --> 00:22:28.393
Remember that the person going on the trip needs to be the one with the card.

00:22:28.393 --> 00:22:36.577
Make sure that when you're booking travel arrangements, you're using the card that is in the name of the person who is going on the trip.

00:22:36.577 --> 00:22:39.974
If you always travel as a family, you'll be fine.

00:22:39.974 --> 00:22:41.953
You'll be covered as family members.

00:22:41.953 --> 00:22:50.920
But if you and your partner or spouse travel independently, you'll want to each have a card where you are the primary card holder that has these benefits.

00:22:50.920 --> 00:22:54.758
That way, you can make sure that you're both always covered.

00:22:54.758 --> 00:22:59.315
This is especially true for rental cars and plane tickets.

00:22:59.315 --> 00:23:07.680
