The most important thing to understand first is that a business in the eyes of the IRS is not the same as a business in the eyes of a bank.

One big advantage is that it doesn't affect your personal credit score in the same way that a personal credit card does.

Now there is one exception here, which is that if you apply for an American Express business credit card and you already have an American Express account of any kind, even a personal kind, they often don't even pull your credit.

The first step if this happens is just to call the bank and remind them that you're a sole proprietor, so you don't have some of the documents that they're requesting, and that's why putting your name as the business name is the easiest, because it might be a matter of just sending in a copy of your social security card or your driver's license, and that can verify your identity and your business.

First, how do you know which card to open and when?
